1. PM Modi launched e-RUPI, a person and purpose specific digital payment.  e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payment. It is a QR code or SMS string-based e-Voucher, which is delivered to the mobile of the beneficiaries. The users of this seamless one-time payment mechanism will be able to redeem the voucher without a card, digital payments app or internet banking access, at the service provider.

2. BJP MPs from Northeast meet PM over Assam, Mizoram clash.

3. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said two ministers from his government will visit Aizawl on Thursday to hold talks to try resolve the state's long-running border dispute with Mizoram, which erupted in a tragic fire-fight between police forces of the two states a week back.

4. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will host a breakfast meeting for Opposition leaders to plan strategies to overcome the current stalemate in Parliament. The meeting is being held to forge unity among the opposition ranks on the issue.

8. Karnataka cabinet expansion is expected to take place most likely on 04 Aug (Wednesday) if the list is finalised during the CM Basavaraj Bommai's meeting with the BJP central leadership.

9. Maharashtra government granting relaxations in COVID-19 curbs in many districts mainly for traders, the Mumbai civic body on Monday also decided to allow all shops to remain open till 10 pm on all days.

10. The Culture Ministry  launched a unique programme to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on Independence Day this year. The initiative, connected with the National Anthem, has been taken up by the Ministry to instill pride and unity among all Indians.  How is ice less dense than water? 

When a liquid is cooled, more molecules are brought closer together and need to be accommodated in a smaller area. This results in most solids having a greater density than liquids. Not so with ice. Water consists of positively-charged hydrogen atoms and negatively-charged oxygen atoms. When water cools, the hydrogen bonds adjust to hold the negatively-charged oxygen atoms apart, which prevents the ice from becoming any denser. So for water, the density actually decreases along with a decrease in temperature - causing ice to be less dense than water!
